So i've got a dilemma, i have the choice between twin SU's off of SSS or twin 40mm delorettos off of an Alfa GTV...the twin 40mm's will cost me $250...and the SU's are in need of a rebuild...

What would be the choice for a mild street driven (occasionally tracked) Series II TRX...

Thanks.

when i was younger on my first ever TRX i fitted a set of twin SU's they needed a bit of attention but once i got it pretty sweet i was very happy with them,

it sounded a little bit like a subaru impreser coz it was so throaty and tuff sounding Smiley

if you could afford more i would go with the webbers Smiley

40 mm dellorettos

will need new jets and manifold to suit

jets cost fuck all and manifold if redline or stanford etc (smaller bore) will cost about 100 to 250 depending on age and condition

do yourself a favour and go a SWR big bore or datrally manifold even for 40mm's. fetter flow characteristics (straight not fancy curvy) but ate about $300 upwards

i got 40mm webers (dellorettos/solex - same shit different bucket) up from su's

massive improvement

could go to 45's but w/o forged bottom end, ballanced, heaps of dyno time and a reason for the extra 2000rpm 40's are more than fine

have a chat with barry from datsport and he can provide you with some jets for a basic starting tune

also you will need a linkage kit $$$$$$

Yep, go the Dellortos. They are basically the same as Webers but parts are harder to get... Jets are OK though, as Slick said.

Still, for a mild motor I reckon there's nothing wrong with the SUs, I have the Hitachi SSS carbs on my Stanza and it goes alright, even though they had been sitting in a shed for 20+ years and I did nothing but clean them before putting them on. I'll be putting them on the Bluebird once I get a set of 45's for the Stanza.

a good set of round top su's   that is hitachi ones from sss 180b and wat not,  will be  suprisingly good if set up properly
on the other hand the delorttos are better like dcoe webers but much harder to get parts for, and  40mm is pretty pittiful for a 2L

im a weber man all day everday but i think you would be better off with su's  with the right needles and jets and wat not will be great,

 just my opinion
